I really think taking the discussions that are labeled as "off topic" to another forum is a great idea. I think this list is fantastic and I usually enjoy reading the "off topic" threads as much as the ones that are relevant to what we see as this list's charter. A lot of it loosely falls into that "networking with other professionals" category and I would hate to see it completely eliminated. I think it shows that we are comfortable with each other and have respect for each other's opinions and feedback on a variety of topics that we feel strongly about. If a second list were created, I would still sign up for it, but I'd send it to my home address where I could go through the thoughts and theories in leisure. All I want at my work address is the information that is current and relevant to what I'm doing at work, without having to dig. If anyone else feels the same way and would still be interested in participating in the "off-topic" discussions as long as it were in a different venue, let's just do it. Let's create the list and move these fascinating discussions there. I'll be first in line to sign up. And speaking of relevant work related data, I wanted to express my appreciation to T. Sugahara for the shared info on the Badtrans worm. I had somehow missed the detail of it adding the _ to the reply to e-mail address in my other readings. That little tidbit was a valuable heads-up to me that I used immediately. Thank you very much. When I joined this mail group the purpose was to obtain and pass along useful information that helps metro-Portland companies learn about and resolve IS and Security problems. Perhaps it would be beneficial for those who wish to have these discussions, create a forum in which they can do so. Jeffrey B.
