DIGITAL FORENSICS AND COMPUTER SECURITY SERIES

"Error, Uncertainty, and Loss in Digital Evidence"
    	Lecture by Eoghan Casey
    	Knowledge Solutions, LLC

Friday, February 28, 2003, 12:30 pm at OCATE

This lecture will highlight inherent weaknesses in evidence
stored on and transmitted using computers. Child
pornography and computer intrusion case examples are
presented to demonstrate the impact that these weaknesses
can have during an investigation and trial. Approaches to
dealing with errors, uncertainty, and loss in digital
    evidence are discussed.

Eoghan Casey is Technical Director and Partner in Knowledge
Solutions, LLC. He investigates network intrusions,
intellectual property theft, and other computer-related
crimes, and has extensive experience analyzing digital
evidence. He has assisted law enforcement in a wide range
of criminal investigations including homicide, child
exploitation, cyberstalking, and larceny. Mr. Casey also
has extensive information security experience. As an
Information Security Officer at Yale University and in
subsequent consulting work, Mr. Casey has performed
    vulnerability assessments, deployed and maintained
intrusion detection systems, firewalls and public key
infrastructures, and developed policies, procedures, and
educational programs. Mr. Casey is the author of Digital
Evidence and Computer Crime and the editor of the Handbook
    of Computer Crime Investigation.

This lecture is sponsored by OCATE and organized by PSU Department
of Computer Science and CRIME (Computer Related Investigations
