    Unfortunately nearly *every* single one of these tools that I've encountered
    that claim to wipe 100% fail in one or more circumstances.
    
    I'm not able to name names or publish test results, so feel free to take
    what I've said with a gigantic grain of salt.  However, as you can infer
    from the .gov email address - I'm not here to sell anything.  (That's a good
    lesson to learn for future reading on this list, btw - read posts from
    salesmen with a very skeptical eye, *especially* in this field).
    
    The only one that I haven't seen fail yet is DBAN (
    http://dban.sourceforge.net ) - but I'm not done testing it.
