The problem, I think, is not in the specific decision, as much as the
*apparent* arbitrariness of it. NOT that it WAS arbitrary, but in the
sense that your experience has given you a detailed opinion of what the
consensus was and how it should be applied, and others are not privy to
    that synthesis.

Different people hear different arguments with differing emphasis.

Discussions proceed here to "silence", but there's no "final word" from
anywhere declaring a final consensus, or even positing one for refinement.
Just an after the fact declaration that "this is what we agreed" filtered
through a very small group's perception.

There's no clear indication that, say, dividing the audit patch into 3
sections will result in 1, 2, or 3 of them being accepted. Or even that
they are LIKELY to be accepted. It's more of a "show me and I'LL decide"
sort of challenge. This gives contributors the impression they're
competing against an unknown standard. Since significant cost and effort
may be being applied, having at least SOME assurance of success can be
    most helpful.

Some semi-concrete standard for submissions that may be used to
divide them would be most welcome... or even a defined review track that
will result in exposition of the "razor".

    Sincerely,
    J. Melvin Jones
