NOT that it WAS arbitrary, but in the sense that your experience has given you a detailed opinion of what the consensus was and how it should be applied, and others are not privy to that synthesis. Different people hear different arguments with differing emphasis. Discussions proceed here to "silence", but there's no "final word" from anywhere declaring a final consensus, or even positing one for refinement. Just an after the fact declaration that "this is what we agreed" filtered through a very small group's perception. There's no clear indication that, say, dividing the audit patch into 3 sections will result in 1, 2, or 3 of them being accepted. Or even that they are LIKELY to be accepted. It's more of a "show me and I'LL decide" sort of challenge. This gives contributors the impression they're competing against an unknown standard. Since significant cost and effort may be being applied, having at least SOME assurance of success can be most helpful. Some semi-concrete standard for submissions that may be used to divide them would be most welcome... or even a defined review track that will result in exposition of the "razor". Sincerely, J.
