I have obtained two of VA-Linux close-out servers (VA Linux 1000), and am
willing to set them up for remote access via ssh (through port forwarding on my
firewall). This includes gaining root access to one or both systems.

    I'm currently planning on:
    1. Using 3 boot partitions, one for Slackware, one Red Hat, with one
reserved (cluster testing? other distribution? recovery system?)
    2. These systems contain two ethernet interfaces, one to a 10Mbit hub,
the other connects the two systems together (crossover cable) to
       provide a 100Mbit link.
    3. Besides the 3 boot partitions (15 MB each) there are 3 ~8.5 GB root
       partitions planned.
    4. The other system is just as VA Linux configured it (Red Hat, server
       config).
    5. These systems are supposed to be capable of booting headless though
currently I do have the graphics interface active (appears to need a power
cycle to turn it off - it's enabled via front button during power on).
    6. Adding 4.x development for various LSM tests...

I am still in the early setup stage, and would like any suggestions for
    further setup... ie:

    	a. serial console requirements?
    	b. extra software? (kdb, etc...)
    	c. special boot procedures? (I don't know if the BIOS can see the
    	   serial line - still experimenting)
    	d. alternate network config? (put them in a different subnet on the
    	   same media?...)

My internet connection is via ADSL 256K bit guaranteed up/down, but usually I
see more (up to 700K up/1.4 Mbit down is the upper limit).

You can see the current setup at:

The documentation there is, naturally, a little out of date (sorry...:-)
I will be adding documentation during the next few weeks...
