    An interesting exercise, but really you've tackled the program in the
    wrong way.  The first thing to do is figure out whether there is a
    problem that needs solving, then figure out what exactly that problem
    is, then decide what the requirements are for any solution.
    
    Only then should design start - at which point research like the bit you
    presented here is *extremely* useful.
    
    
    
    
    So I guess the question is:  Is there a need for an improved logging

         design shouldn't start yet, can I recommend using anything other
