i have read many post to the jobs thread and all seem to indicate that to
get a job requires putting your destiny and job satisfaction in the hands of
a future employer or recruiter that you must pursue via massive email
campaigns and/or shotgun faxes attacks. if i was hiring, i would look for
passion, desire, general intelligence, a willingness to learn coupled with
an ability to learn on one's own, and a minimum of knowledge in the specific
industry that you are pursuing. this knowledge might be self taught, and
could be represented by certifications or publications, among other things.
certifications can be attained by oneself, and being published might mean
only contributing to a trade magazine or an internal publication. even a
complete write-up of a home network might exhibit one's knowledge of the
career path that one is pursuing.

but the most important thing that would compel me to hire someone would be
their desire to work with and use the technology that they say they want to
work with, and to use their skills in my employ. and this would mean they
would be compelled and driven to get a job at all costs.

example: if you get a job that pays loads yet is unfulfilling and empty, the
money loses it's value. you dot get what you pay for. on the other hand, if
you get a job that allows you to learn something new every day, allows you
to play with the newest technology, and lets you pursue the interests that
you wanted to pursue before you got the job, then the value of your paycheck
skyrockets. and if you love what you do, you will excel at it, and employers
will realize this with more responsibility, and, subsequently, more pay.

if you are hungry, go to where the food is. choose a company that you
believe would be a place that you would want to work at without pay, or with
minimal pay. then, actually show up and give your resume to someone in the
department that you want to work in, be it admin, security, web design,
whatever. show a desire to work there and express your passion and
willingness to learn and do whatever it takes to fulfill your own destiny.
choose your job, and your own path, and the money will become secondary. if
you are doing what you love, everything else, jobwise, becomes moot. eddy
