    Dear Ms Genco,
Contact your local FBI office and ask to talk to FBI agent in charge of
    INFRAGARD program.
It may take some time and calls (try using computer crime task force) to get
    past phone person.
This is part of public/private partnership. Since you are employed as system
    admin you can join
program. You get to go to meetings, meet people who are doing security/crime
    issues.
Also it helps on resumes for future.
    Regards,
    David R. Hibbeln

Subject: transition to a career in computer forensics

    Hello, all,

I'm a systems administrator with an MS in computer science and about three
years of full-time experience who is looking to make a career transition
to computer forensics. For the past several weeks, I've been
investigating this field by seeking out information on lists such as this,
in books, and on other websites. I've found a lot of great stuff, and I'm
very interested in learning more about the field with an eye toward
getting a job as a technician or an analyst. I've signed up for a couple
of online courses at Knowledge Solutions to get my feet wet
(http://www.corpus-delicti.com), and if they go well, I will enroll in the
online course offered by Key Computer (http://www.cftco.com).

I've spent some time pouring over the list archives, and there are a lot
of great references mentioned (books, websites, software, training
courses, etc). What I'm looking for now is a little bit of advice on how
to successfully transition from my job as a systems administrator to a job
in the computer forensics field (public or private sector). Have any of
you made such a transition? How did it work out for you? I have all this
great information in front of me, and I'd love any advice on how best to
make use of it. Any suggestions (from anyone -- not just former
sysadmins) on where to best apply my energies would be helpful. I'd also
love to hear about any companies or organizations in the New York City
area that do computer forensics work.

    Thanks very much!

    Elizabeth Genco
