I once had a recruiter call me to ask me if I knew anyone who did Linux kernel programming. When I said yes, he got all excited and said that I was the "first person" he'd ever talked to that understood what kernel programming was! Then he offered me a boatload of money to refer successful candidates. Unfortunately for him, I knew what company he was recruiting for (because of some of the hints he gave me), so when I referred people to him and he never followed up, I reported him to the company he was recruiting for and they cancelled his contract.
