They could simply leverage all the cards, key tags, etc. You need to get your special pricing at the grocery store... The federated approach is interesting, but the moment you correlate and identify specific individual activities or behaviors, you get to the same civil liberties issues you have with a single national ID. And if you don't get it down to the ability to identify individual activities, how much use is it? Besides, even with Experian et al, the SSN ties it all together - the only barrier is that you need multiple "queries" to get the whole picture. -----Original Message----- From: Jeff Bryner Sent: Thu Dec 12 15:46:40 2002 To: crime@private Subject: RE: CRIME Identification Alternatives <how about an idea proposed by the National Electronic Commerce Coordinating Council? It proposes a "confederated" system in which Americans could use multiple identifiers for clusters of agencies and/or businesses. "That advantage of this system over a national ID system is that no single identifier would follow an individual everywhere."> And how long does anyone think it will take to corroborate all these 'unconnected' ids?! It's not that difficult..just look at companies like acxiom, experian, etc...
