No I didn't take the job, the contract company didn't want to pay me the
rate, then they wanted to Mickey mouse moving, then they wanted to change
this, then the guy wanted me there the next day (I live near Tampa) and they
wouldn't let me move for a month and wouldn't pay for my hotel room nor any
other bills as expenses. It was a disaster from the word "Go". I would take
40k to find a job near Tampa, Orlando, or Sarasota where I would drive
everyday to work for less money and be much happier. Money is nice, but once
you agree on terms you stick by them. If not then you ruin the whole trust
you want to develop between yourself and the business.

    Sigh...

PS. Anyone have any type of leads on jobs in my area (Tampa-Orlando down all
the way south to ft. Myers)?

Florida is no better. I had to go down to Miami for an interview for a small
dot com (I didn't know it was till I got there). They wanted a security
expert/sys admin/ as well as IT manager. They wanted to pay 60k for this, I
told them they were insane and come back with a better offer. Instead of
raising it they lowered it, go figure...

Houston too. It's pretty bad here for infosec.

I'm going to have to agree with the list on this one. Minneapolis area
doesn't seem to have a large amount of security job openings either.
Appears to me that a large percentage of the postings in this area are
    DBAs.

Could have fooled me with the scarcity of such jobs in the Los
Angeles area. (There seems to be a wealth of such opportunities on the
East Coast, but my wife's work is in support of the DoD and thus I'm
effectively tied to the L.A. area.)

I'm serious. I've been managing with part-time security
advisory work for NASA coupled with independent consulting gigs
(following the massive RIF at OneSecure in July), and I have yet to find
a company that isn't in the throes of downsizing (if not outright
eliminating) any and every computer and network security department they
have. This makes for some pretty thin job opportunities.

Someone please provide information to the contrary if they think
    I'm wrong. :)
